Jessica Hope's Conscious Conception Story

The principles that created Nurturing the Mother® Fertility Massage are based on the techniques of cleansing, breaking up congestion, educating about fertility awareness, balancing, and opening both physical and spiritual energy fields. This is truly a holistic approach to support the conception of a spirit into the body. Jessica Hope taught me these principles.

She is 23 as I finally write her conception story. She is gorgeous, intelligent, courageous and intense. I know when the spark of her spirit entered my body and we became mother and daughter.

I called her to me, or maybe she called me. I had a drive to conceive and have a baby girl. I prepared. I had no books or prior study, but I knew my body. Fertile mucous and timing were the tools I used, along with my intuition. I had already been doing yoga for many years. I was already a mother to my son James, who I had birthed naturally and nursed for two years. Now I was ready for her. Jessica has often been the most challenging of my three children. She has taught me so much right from the start. She has never ceased being my eternal teacher.

I meditated and talked to you for three months before your conception. I knew you were a girl spirit. I thought you would be a Sagittarius like me. I fasted, I would do periodic cleanses, it seemed so critical to clean out, in preparation for what was to come and now I understand why.

James' Birth Story

Just yesterday I gave my twenty eight year old son a massage. He receives them well, massage has been a part of his life from the beginning. Massage was a big part of my pregnancy with him, as well as labor, postpartum and infancy. James loves both massage and water therapy to this day, both are evident in this story.

When I was just a couple weeks pregnant, still mildly nauseated and very tired, I was enlisted to teach a pregnancy massage class at the local recreation center in South Lake Tahoe, CA. We did a little massage, some reflexology, gentle prenatal yoga and deep relaxation. I think I made the relaxation part a little longer just because I was so tired. There was no controversy in 1981 about receiving a massage in the first trimester. What did we know about prenatal massage, at that time. All I knew was that massage felt wonderful, relaxing, rejuvenating and nourishing to my changing body.

Massages became a routine experience for me while I was teaching a series of massage classes at my friend Judy's house. Each Sunday afternoon Judy would give me a massage after class had finished. It was lovely. I received more than eighteen massages throughout my pregnancy with James. The massage strokes were as simple as deep long effleurages down my back, but their effects were long lasting. Hip and arm stretches helped the tightness I felt from the extra fluid I held in my body. The most comfortable way to receive my pregnancy massage was in the side lying position with lots of pillow support. Those massages seemed to be the best in the world. Many of the stretches and strokes I learned through receiving I now include in the Nurturing the Mother® course. When labor began it was my dear friend Judy that I called, she was as close to having a doula, a woman to support you through this scary and powerful life transition.

Jessica Hope's Birth Story

As I remember back about 25 years, I recall the words from Ronnie, Jessica's father, calling her birth a "feminist bonfire." This statement was made after 5 women descended on our house in the anticipation of the joyous arrival of our daughter, Jessica. She was truly a princess, arriving with lots of fanfare. The snow was falling on that November day in Lake Tahoe. Ronnie and James spent much the day of her labor constructing a beautiful snow and ice castle, while I was being attended to by my ladies.

The UPS guy was quite surprised to have a laboring woman answer the door. He was delivering the 3 peony bushes I ordered to plant with her placenta. The peony bush that had the placenta planted beneath it gave us the most beautiful flower our last summer in Tahoe.

I received massage with Jessica in preparation for conception, as well as throughout the pregnancy, labor and postpartum periods. Her pregnancy was during an emotionally difficult time, the pressures of a young family, especially financial concerns were great as we prepared to add another member to our family. In the last trimester we moved from a small one-bedroom rental apartment in Stateline, NV to a three- bedroom rental house across the street from my midwife and good friend, Kate in Tahoe Paradise.

Danielle Adelaide's (Nellie) Birth Story

I reminisce about Nellie, (her given birth name is Danielle).

We were camping with friends in the Napa Valley at the state park just south of Calistoga. Ronnie was off playing golf with the guys and I was taking a little hike with James and Jessica to pick blackberries. While we were playing, picking and eating, I am sure that I caught presence of a gentle fairy spirit. To me, my daughter has this energy about her. Later that evening we were relaxing with our friends around the campfire, we were talking about the children and somehow the discussion got around to "Are you having any more children?" Ronnie and I both responded with a resounding, "Yes, we want one more." Danielle was conceived that night in our tent in Napa Valley.

The next day, unaware of what was occurring in my body at that very moment, I took my two girlfriends with me to the hot springs in Calistoga to have a mud bath. We had a gloriously, fun filled, messy time. Later I wondered if the hot mud had something to do with Danielle's conception? It was an early conception by the charting method.

A few days later I was practicing yoga with a friend and I observed that I was finally opening up with my stretching. It was at that moment, I realized I was pregnant , due to the feeling of how the Relaxin hormone felt like in my body.
