This was the third workshop that I have taken with Amy Stenger-Sullivan. Her professionalism, knowledge, understanding, and passion for the work she presents is exceptional. Her work is also a way of life that is practiced with her own family. The importance of keeping her family at the center of her world carries over into the work presented keeping all of us mindful of respect and honor for Family in all aspects of the work we do. The content of the work as put together by Claire Marie Miller is thorough and completely covers the subject with plenty of reference material outlined to give direction and keep us learning after the workshop ends. The book that accompanies the workshop details all work presented so that you don’t leave the session wondering if you can remember everything once you get back home. The DVD’s, oils, brochures etc available through Nurturing the Mother are not only very helpful, but offer an approach to marketing, review, and access to previously tested materials that keeps the work consistent with the content and philosophy of Nurturing the Mother. I don’t know if it is because this was the last piece of the puzzle for me, as I have taken Nurturing the Mother Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage as well as Claire’s Integrative Reflexology, but I feel that the Fertility Massage Workshop is the single most important continuing education course that I have taken….and I have taken a lot. While I knew any Nurturing the Mother Workshop would be a quality workshop, I didn’t expect to get as much out of this workshop as I did. One thing I understand now is that Fertility massage work is not just about helping a woman to conceive, but that Reproductive health IS Health for anyone, male or female, young or old. When we help the body and educate the couple to “cleanse, align and balance” their hormones for optimal reproductive health, then they have achieved Health! This is a state they will want to maintain for the rest of their lives and hopefully will now carry over into the health and well being of those children we have had the honor through our work to help bring into this world. The use of castor oil in all Nurturing the Mother courses has convinced me to use it with my own family and discover its many healing attributes for myself. It was most helpful to have a client of Amy’s join us for demonstration and to tell us her story. Being able to view the challenges of fertility from the her perspective made very clear the vast amount of medical and fertility knowledge that such a couple acquires, as well as the disappointments experienced in their quest for a child. This also points up the necessity of the therapist being at least as equally and hopefully more knowledgeable and educated than the client before attempting this work. We were also fortunate to have a young male therapist in this workshop who shared his and his wife’s experience to this point in seeking a pregnancy. His participation underlined that this work is a couple’s experience involving the reproductive health of not only the female but the male as well. An illustration as to how muscle tightness (tight psoas) can restrict the blood flow to the reproductive organs in the male and possibly hinder conception further underscored the lessons learned during this workshop. The challenging aspect for me will be acquiring proficiency in the many modalities that can assist fertility and pregnancy massage. In the work presented, as well as in the other Nurturing the Mother courses, there was sufficient explanation and introduction to these techniques (lymphatic drainage, cranial sacral, and reflexology), to begin fertility massage work. I have already had success in using with my regular clients, the lymphatic drainage, side-lying, gluteal work and reflexology techniques learned in the Nurturing the Mother Pregnancy Massage workshop. I was especially pleased to see the incorporation of Bamboo-Fusion Massage as I have already had instruction and use these tools regularly in my massage practice. I have been able to successfully introduce abdominal massage to a number of my clients when I explain the benefits. The abdominal massage techniques learned in this Fertility Massage Workshop will simply reinforce, add to this work, and send me in yet another direction to obtain knowledge. Not least of all in importance was the experience and friendship developed with fellow workshop participants. The small class size was definitely a plus in allowing us to learn and encourage one another. The difference between any Nurturing the Mother Seminar and other workshops, is that I feel confident and ready to begin the work upon completing the course work.

I just want to take a moment to tell you how truly grateful I am to have you as a teacher. I feel cleansed, inspired and, most of all, hopeful! I was really starting to lose faith in the journey and I now have a deeper understanding of what is going on. I read a paragraph in Conscious Conception today: (Claire studied with Jeannine the author for 20 years) "You may perform all your rituals and chant your prayers and hope with all your heart to birth a high soul. However, your baby's soul will match yours. If you want a high souled baby, an aware child, then be that high soul yourself." This rang like a bell in me, I have gotten so caught up in being an "infertile victim" that I have lost touch with the journey. Claire hit the high mark of excellence from the get go! The demo of the massage sequence early on the first day infused with lots of information made it the best seminar I been to in years! And I have attended a lot of seminars during the 17 years doing massage. Claire, I want to thank you for teaching such a wonderful class here in Bozeman . I raced thru your survey the last day of class and so I really want to reiterate how happy I am I took Nurturing the Mother course. It’s so fascinating to me and I am so excited for this to become a part of my practice. I really enjoyed your in-depth knowledge throughout the weekend. The best part about the class is that all the teaching stems from a great passion inside you. Its contagious. I haven’t felt this excited since I first graduated from massage school 11 years ago. I was also very impressed and thankful of the marketing included in the course. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve now had two natural births myself, but I feel really passionate about the entire topic. I see very clearly the change from birth being this very natural, important and spiritual experience to mothers into something radically different for the general population. It seems to somehow throw off what is a natural balance of life. I’m not sure how that affects humanity, but, I feel like it’s so radically opposite of what it should be that we’re missing something. I think I mentioned this in the survey, but it’s a “connectedness”. Like all massage therapists, we want to help our clients get “in touch” with themselves. With pregnant moms, its on a whole different level. I feel so sad that with this particular thing –birth: mothers give up all their power to doctors and medicine who have turned it into an industry. So thank you for such a lovely course. It offered so much more than just learning the proper strokes.
