Anatomy and physiology for pregnancy and birth
Pregnancy massage sequence
Cautions and contraindications for pregnancy massage
Guidelines for pregnancy massage for each trimester
Massage cautions and variations for high-risk pregnancies
Labor massage and labor support techniques
Newborn and infant massage demonstration
Postpartum massage, with the principle of "mother roasting" - the application of heat, along with specific bodywork techniques for the recovery and realignment of the mother.
Marketing your new skills to the public
YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
4 pillows - 2 king size and 2 standard
3 sets of sheets
Blanket or pad for Shiatsu
Massage table; one per two students (unless available on-site)
Optional: Baby doll for infant massage demonstration
Marya Millard graduated from Guilford College in North Carolina and later relocated to the Washington, D.C. area. Marya studied to become a massage therapist in 2012 and graduated from the Northern Virginia School of Therapeutic Massage in Falls Church, VA, where she is also currently an instructor. Marya is licensed to practice massage in Virginia (#19011119) and Washington, D.C. (#MT2031) and is a member of Associated Bodyworks and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
Marya maintains a full-time practice focusing on therapeutic massage, Integrative Reflexology®, Nurturing the Mother® Fertility Massage, Nurturing the Mother® Pregnancy and Postpartum massage and infant massage instruction. She is also a trained birth doula. In the rest of her life, Marya enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with their two dogs and making art.
